How we found love in NYSC Benue - Rafiah and Yusuff




Ride with me back to January 2017, NYSC called and we were posted to Benue. A few days after camp started, a friend who had met us individually said to Sodiq he found a lady from Ibadan who could be his match for ‘bad mouth’ and he asked to meet. Thankfully, we were in same Platoon 10 so it was easier for him to introduce us. Some bants here and there, well you should know who won.

Fast forward to January 31, 2017, we happened to sit next to each other during SAED class and his phone gallery scroll revealed we have a mutual friend and that kicked off endless hours of talks and bants. While people were running away from SAED, we turned it to our rendezvous to nurture our friendship. Unfortunately, Sodiq got posted to Vandeikya LG while I got posted to Apa LG. I remember we asked one of the vendors in Maami market how far the two locations are to each other and the guy laughed at us for not sticking to the ‘don’t fall in love in camp’ mantra. Technically, we were just trying to nurture our friendship.

Many ‘friendly’ calls and late night chats after, we started dating. When service ended, I returned to Ibadan and he returned to Lagos. As fate would have it, I moved to Lagos not long after for work and year on year, we kept building on the foundation we built in Benue. 

In 2022, he proposed and we got married in 2023 and we welcomed our twin boys in October 2024. It's been two years of bliss, sweet memories and love.

Looking back we thank God for not rejecting the call to go to Benue. Also thankful for the gift of the mutual friend who was instrumental to our meeting. Thank you NYSC for the platform for meeting the man of my dreams.

We met in NYSC and our fathers were friends from wayback 💖🇳🇬😍

  We met precisely in 2019 during the INEC training for corps members towards the 2019 Elections at Government Secondary School Apata, Ibadan. I noticed her from a distance however I couldn’t summon the courage to speak with her but with the help of one of my friends who was also serving at that time I was able to speak with her.  She was a bit reserved but she communicated well with my friends and I. We had our first outing on February 14, 2019. We met in NYSC, separated but came back together 😍🤣💍🇳🇬

  Femi and I struck a friendship during our NYSC orientation exercise in 2013. Even though there was always an initial attraction; we were both committed to other things and people and we left it as a good friendship. However, we kept in touch and in 2014, while Femi was away furthering his studies, we got closer and spoke every day. At this point, we were both single and decided to commit to each other. Our friends and family became well acquainted with each other and it felt like a fairy tale. Sadly, we parted ways a few years later.
